An Air Europa aircraft made an emergency landing in Brazil.
A flight from Spain to Uruguay encountered severe turbulence, injuring at least 30 people. The Air Europa aircraft made an emergency landing in Brazil, and the injured are now in the hospital, reported the Brazilian station BandNews.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was en route from Madrid to Montevideo, Uruguay. After passengers were injured, it made an emergency landing in the city of Natal in northeastern Brazil, Air Europa stated on the social network X.
The Uruguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the injured passengers were taken to the hospital and added that several had already been discharged after receiving treatment.
A source within Uruguayan diplomacy told AFP that between 25 and 30 people were injured. Most suffered “minor trauma” and apparently “no one is in life-threatening condition.”
Air Europa announced that another plane would depart from Madrid on Monday to pick up the passengers in Natal and take them to Uruguay.
In May, severe turbulence struck a Boeing 777 aircraft from Singapore Airlines traveling from London, forcing it to make an emergency landing in Bangkok. A 73-year-old Briton died, and several others on board, including crew members, sustained skull, brain, and spinal injuries.
