A drawing on the coffin resembled Marge Simpson, surrounded by high priestesses representing the 12 hours of the day.
One of the most recognizable characters from the popular animated series The Simpsons is Marge Simpson, who appears to have a look-alike from ancient Egypt. Archaeologists have found her likeness on an ancient Egyptian coffin estimated to be 3,000 years old.
The discovered coffin contained the mummified remains of the daughter of the high priest El Ashmunein. On the inner lid of the coffin, archaeologists found a drawing resembling Marge Simpson, surrounded by high priestesses representing the 12 hours of the day, reports the Daily Mail.
The depiction was of a yellow woman in a green dress with an extremely tall blue crown. The paintings on coffin lids from the New Kingdom era are known for their intricate designs. The discovery was made nine months ago, but it went viral recently due to social media attention and observant fans who noticed the similarity to Marge.
The Secretary-General of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities stated that during the excavation, tombs believed to have been made for high officials and priests were also found. Various amulets and precious ornaments were reportedly found alongside the mummies.
