The Southern Railway Station in Budapest (Déli pályaudvar) was shut down on Monday afternoon after a passenger train entered a track despite a “Stop” signal.

Hungary’s state railway company, MÁV, confirmed the incident but did not disclose if another train was present on the same track, according to the news outlet 24.hu.

The incident involved an S12 passenger train traveling from Oroszlány to Budapest. Departing from Budapest Kelenföld station at 2:08 PM, the train proceeded onto the restricted track as it approached Déli pályaudvar.

Recent Train Incidents in Budapest

This is the latest in a series of train-related incidents in Hungary’s capital. On October 21, a slow-moving locomotive derailed at the Eastern Railway Station (Keleti pályaudvar).

Although no injuries occurred, this followed two earlier derailments:

  • On August 25, five carriages of an InterCity train traveling from Cluj-Napoca, Romania, to Budapest derailed at Keleti.
  • On September 4, a freight train collided with construction machinery near Soroksár station, causing another derailment.

All incidents, including Monday’s at Déli, were reported without injuries.
