Harvey Weinstein is currently serving a prison sentence for multiple sexual assault-related crimes.
The former American producer, once one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood, is facing significant health issues. Recently, he was diagnosed with a form of bone marrow cancer.
The 72-year-old co-founder of Miramax has been experiencing various health problems while in prison, including diabetes and macular degeneration. His condition has reportedly worsened, partly due to the poor diet in prison, according to The Independent. Weinstein is also receiving treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia at a New York correctional facility. His medical assistant told ABC News that, “out of respect for his privacy, no further comments will be provided.”
“It is troubling and unacceptable that such private and confidential medical matters have become public discussion. Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy, we will not offer any further comments,” his spokesperson added.
In 2020, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York for rape. He has also faced accusations from over 100 women, leading to the rise of the #MeToo movement, which highlights issues of sexual harassment and abuse across industries, including entertainment.
