Dozens of migrants missing after three boats sink in Greece

Three boats encountered trouble simultaneously near the coast of Gavdos Island.

At least one person has died, and 200 migrants have been rescued following three separate incidents in Greek waters overnight, according to the Greek Coast Guard. The news, reported by DPA.

Dozens remain missing after the boats ran into difficulties near the Greek island of Gavdos, south of Crete. One of the vessels, a wooden boat carrying 39 people, sank. So far, only one body has been recovered. Helicopters and aircraft, alongside Coast Guard patrols, are actively participating in the ongoing search operation.

Survivors revealed that the boats were likely carrying significantly more passengers, according to the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.
