Heavy rains cause flooding in Tuscany

In Pisa province, firefighters successfully rescued 15 people.

Heavy rains hit large parts of Pisa province in Tuscany on Saturday evening, causing streams and rivers to overflow and flood streets and homes. Several vehicles were swept away by water, requiring fire and rescue teams to intervene, according to APA news agency.

Firefighters in Pisa reported that 15 individuals were rescued from car rooftops or water currents.

The town of Riparbella, near Pisa, was especially affected. Mayor Salvatore Neri noted that rainfall levels over just three hours were unprecedented for the area.

Meteorologists have issued further heavy rain alerts for Saturday and Sunday across the regions of Piedmont, Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, and Valle d’Aosta.

Italy has experienced repeated heavy rain in recent weeks, with northern regions like Emilia-Romagna and Liguria reporting extensive damage.
