Instagram now allows you to share twice as many photos in a single post

Instagram, the popular photo-sharing social network, has increased the number of photos and videos that users can include in a single post.

Previously, users were limited to 10 items per post, but now, each post can contain up to 20 photos or videos. This update, first reported by Mashable, marks a significant enhancement for Instagram users.

Instagram is constantly evolving to enhance the user experience, offering new features and improvements to keep its community engaged. For example, users can now add music to their photos and videos, bringing a new dimension to their posts. Additionally, collaborative posts allow friends to contribute their own content to a shared post. By doubling the limit to 20 photos or videos per post, Instagram is enabling users to share even more memories and experiences in a single upload.

Why the Increased Limit Matters

The way users create posts on Instagram has evolved significantly over time. It began with simple, filtered photos, then progressed to carefully curated, “aesthetic” images. Eventually, users began creating multi-photo series, often used to tell a story. For posts with multiple photos, users can scroll left and right to view the entire set.

This new feature was announced on Thursday, August 8, and is currently being rolled out across the web and mobile apps for Android and iOS worldwide. All users should have access to it by the end of the week. Instagram also announced that views will now be the primary metric of success across all supported formats, including live streams, carousels, Reels, Stories, and photos.

If you’re someone who tends to add multiple photos to a single post, you’ll likely appreciate this update. It offers a more comprehensive way to share your experiences. This feature is also beneficial for those who want to showcase all the photos from a single event in one post, rather than creating multiple posts with individual images.

Mixed Reactions from Users

Following the announcement, the majority of Instagram users responded positively. One user commented, “This looks great.” However, not everyone is excited about the change. Another user expressed concern, saying, “This is dangerous for me,” while a third remarked, “20 images in one post is crazy.”

This isn’t the first time Instagram has faced backlash from its user base. Just a few days ago, the platform tested a new feature that would display unskippable ads while browsing posts. Known as Ad Breaks, this feature is currently being tested on a small group of users.

Some international sources suggest that Instagram’s move to increase the photo limit is a response to competition from TikTok, where users can add up to 35 photos in a single post. Although TikTok is primarily known for its short videos, photos are slowly gaining popularity on the platform as well.
