Instagram’s big update: posts are now rectangular, users divided over the change

Instagram is introducing a major update that will see posts displayed in a 4:5 rectangular format instead of the traditional square layout.

On Friday, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced that the update would roll out to all users over the weekend. He acknowledged that the change might feel a bit inconvenient at first but expressed confidence that users would appreciate it in the long run. According to Mosseri, the new format will make photos and videos more visible and engaging.

Users unhappy with the update, claim it ruins profiles

While some users had already experienced the switch to rectangles last year, the update is now being implemented platform-wide. However, it has received mostly negative feedback so far, with many users arguing that it disrupts the appearance of their profiles.

One viral example is singer Niall Horan’s Instagram profile, where his carefully curated collage layout was distorted by the new format.
