“Kendrick just opened his mouth, someone go hand him a Grammy right now!” Drake sarcastically remarked in his song “Family Matters.” Now, this might actually come true.
Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us,” in which he fires back at Drake, has achieved significant success. With over 96 million views on YouTube, the track has recently earned a Grammy nomination.
Kendrick stands a real chance of winning this prestigious music award if he submits it to the Recording Academy. According to Hypebeast, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. also sees it as a strong possibility: “I see no reason why ‘Not Like Us’ couldn’t be nominated or even win a Grammy.” Throughout his career, Kendrick has won 17 Grammy Awards out of 47 nominations.
Ironically, Drake, in his song “Family Matters,” doubted his rival’s potential and sarcastically remarked, “Kendrick just opened his mouth, someone go hand him a Grammy right now.” Now, it seems very likely that Kendrick might actually win the Grammy.
In “Not Like Us,” Kendrick accuses Drake of being a pedophile with lyrics such as, “Certified Lover Boy, certified pedophiles,” and “Say, Drake, I hear you like ’em young. You better not ever go to cell block one.” The track was produced by renowned producer Mustard. The accompanying artwork for the track features an aerial view of Drake’s mansion outside Toronto, marked with red sex offender symbols.
