The modern industry developing various artificial intelligence systems some massive like well-known chatbots, others smaller and specialized for specific applications continues to undergo relentless transformation. New systems are emerging, new technologies are being invented, and new companies with unprecedented plans are being established.

This is currently the case for the controversial billionaire Elon Musk, who recently founded the company xAI, sharing part of its name with the platform X, formerly known as Twitter. According to The Information, Musk plans to build his own AI supercomputer, which will use up to 100,000 Nvidia graphics cards or chips.

The competition is fierce

To build this supercomputer, AI plans to collaborate with Oracle, a company specializing in software solutions and cloud infrastructure. Financially, AI is well-supported, having recently closed an investment round raising approximately $6 billion, pushing its valuation to around $18 billion, despite not yet showcasing any groundbreaking innovations.

The supercomputer will consist of Nvidia’s H100 graphics cards, the standard in this field. However, due to the high demand for these chips, construction will be neither easy nor cheap. Compared to the plan of the American giant Meta, Musk’s supercomputer is relatively modest. Meta aims to create an AI supercomputer with up to 350,000 H100 graphics cards by the end of this year, with additional chips bringing its total computing power to the equivalent of 600,000 H100 cards. Meanwhile, Musk’s xAI is developing the chatbot Grok, which is not yet as popular as its competitors but is steadily gaining traction in Europe and receiving new software updates.

The funds from recent investments will be used for further development of the Grok chatbot, designed to integrate and utilize data from various Musk companies such as Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and The Boring Company. This integration aims to enhance Grok’s capabilities, benefiting projects like Tesla’s self-driving cars and the humanoid robot Optimus.
