What if perfection governed the world? Perfection in human beings, their creations, society, and even the weather? Many of us think such a concept is unattainable, achievable only through some sci-fi scenario with a brain-connected cable. While a utopian society might be an elusive ideal, a utopian car is very much within reach.
And it could be considered ‘submerged’ if its manufacturer removes the roof and the owner forgets to reattach it.
The Pagani Utopia is a new model from the renowned Italian brand, unveiled to the world approximately two years ago. This model continues to embrace the power of a twelve-cylinder engine from Mercedes. Although the engineers briefly considered a hybrid V8, they ultimately decided against it. The reasoning was simple: while it might offer more power, it would also significantly increase the weight, and Pagani is all about maintaining a low weight.
Thus, we have the new edition of the supercharged 6-liter V12 engine, delivering a maximum output of 635 kW, which is approximately 863 horsepower. The torque is an impressive 1100 Nm. The vehicle is rear-wheel drive, and you can choose between a 7-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed AMT gearbox, the latter being a racing-inspired automated manual, essentially a single-clutch sequential transmission.
The car’s dry weight is 1280 kilograms, nearly identical to the coupe version. This is achieved without any additional reinforcements, relying solely on an extremely rigid carbon monocoque that doesn’t need extra bracing. The top speed is just under 350 km/h, only slightly slower than the coupe.
To ensure the Pagani Utopia isn’t merely a new iteration of itself, it incorporates the latest technologies. Despite the brand’s love for exterior and interior design extravagance—hence the bright red carbon, the round rear lights, the four exhaust pipes, and the massive wing—the Utopia is equipped with advanced features. For instance, it has intelligent tires that communicate with the vehicle’s control units via Bluetooth. This allows the car to understand precisely what type of tires it has and to use the optimal performance map to maximize their potential.
