Richard Perry, one of the most sought-after music producers of the 1970s and 1980s, passed away on Tuesday in Los Angeles at the age of 82.
Known for his collaborations with artists like Carly Simon, Barbra Streisand, and The Pointer Sisters, Perry played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of pop music during his era, according to the Associated Press.
A prominent figure in Hollywood, Perry was romantically linked to iconic singers Cher and Tina Turner and lived for a time with actress Jane Fonda. He was married twice, including to actress Rebecca Broussard, who later married Jack Nicholson.
Perry famously facilitated a “Beatles reunion,” bringing John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison together to collaborate on Ringo Starr’s album Ringo, which featured hits such as “Photograph” and “Oh My My.”
After graduating from college, Perry rose to prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s, producing successful records across rock, R&B, and pop genres, establishing himself as a legendary figure in the music industry.
