The all-electric Fiat 600 RED: a smile on wheels

The Fiat 600, a name that once graced the streets years ago, has made its return in a completely new and electrifying form. For those who remember the previous generation of the “600,” it’s been fourteen years since production ceased.

Even back then, the model was outdated, to say the least. The original Fiat 600, or Fiat Seicento in Italian, was a small three-door hatchback designed for basic transportation. It wasn’t particularly safe, complex, or expensive. Interestingly, there was even an electric version called the Elettra, which featured a 30 kW three-phase motor and 18 twelve-volt batteries, offering a top speed of 100 km/h and a range of 90 kilometers.

Fast forward to today, and the new Fiat 600 has been reimagined as an all-electric vehicle. However, it’s not just electric anymore. Initially launched as an electric vehicle, it now also comes in a mild-hybrid variant, reflecting the flexibility of its underlying platform. This flexibility means that while the new 600 and the older 500X both offer combustion engines, the iconic Fiat 500 is phasing out its older versions, moving towards full electrification with a mild-hybrid option soon to follow.

This dual offering—electric and mild-hybrid—provides consumers with options. But the real question is whether it makes sense to invest in the electric version. The mild-hybrid Fiat 600 starts at around 22,000 euros, while the electric model is at least 13,000 euros more expensive. If your decision is purely financial, the electric version may not seem worth the extra cost. The return on investment is challenging unless you have a home setup with solar panels, a battery storage system, and drive frequently enough to maximize the benefits.

From a financial standpoint, the electric Fiat 600 might not be the most economical choice. However, it offers significant added value beyond just numbers. As an electric vehicle, it’s modern and eco-friendly, with a smooth, quiet ride thanks to its automatic transmission that doesn’t require shifting while driving. Each kilometer driven is not only enjoyable but also contributes to a reduction in local emissions. Plus, you won’t have to worry about engine wear, even on short trips of just a few hundred meters.

In summary, while the electric Fiat 600 may come with a higher price tag, it offers a blend of modernity, comfort, and environmental consciousness that can make it a worthwhile choice for those looking to embrace the future of driving.
