The Asus ROG Ally surpasses the Steam Deck with its Windows 11 OS, allowing access to multiple game clients, making it a game-changing handheld gaming device.

During a media preview, the Asus ROG Ally was unveiled, debunking any notion that it was an April Fool’s prank. One significant feature confirmed during the preview was the device’s operating system: Windows 11.

While the Nintendo Switch remains a strong competitor, the Steam Deck is the Asus ROG Ally’s direct rival in the handheld gaming PC market. The Steam Deck runs on SteamOS, limiting users to specific game libraries and preventing access to games available on alternative clients like Epic Games, EA Play, and Activision Blizzard’s Battle.net.

The Asus ROG Ally resolves this issue by running Windows 11, enabling users to access a wide range of game clients and potentially use the device for other productivity tasks like browsing and streaming.

This advancement from Asus is a game changer for handheld gamers who no longer have to be confined to Steam’s game catalog. The global launch event for the Asus ROG Ally is scheduled for May 11, 2023, where more details about the device will be revealed.

Furthermore, the Asus ROG Ally boasts impressive specifications that outperform the Steam Deck. It features an AMD Ryzen Z1 / AMD Ryzen Z1 Super processor and a 7-inch 1080p display, providing exceptional visuals compared to the Steam Deck’s 1200 x 800 (equivalent to 720p) display.

On the other hand, the Steam Deck has its drawbacks. Its limitation to Steam games only, while expected, is a drawback for users with gaming libraries spread across different clients. Additionally, the initial stock issues and challenges in acquiring the Steam Deck, similar to the PS5’s launch, have deterred potential buyers.

Although Valve has addressed the supply problems, the arrival of the Asus ROG Ally as a superior alternative for portable PC gaming has attracted the attention of gamers seeking a hassle-free experience. As long as the Asus ROG Ally is readily available, it presents a compelling option for gamers looking to enjoy PC gaming on the go.
