Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, best known for its smartphones, has officially expanded into the electric vehicle (EV) market through its Xiaomi EV division.

The company has now unveiled details of its second EV model, the YU7 SUV.Following the release of key specifications and initial photos, Xiaomi shared additional exterior images of the YU7 SUV on its Weibo account. The YU7 builds on the design language of its predecessor, the SU7 sedan, offering a sportier appearance compared to most SUVs on the market, as highlighted by Cnevpost.

According to CarNewsChina, the YU7 measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, promising a spacious interior. The SUV weighs 2,405 kilograms and can achieve a top speed of 253 km/h. It is powered by dual electric motors—220 kW in the front and 288 kW in the rear—and features lithium-ion ternary batteries supplied by renowned manufacturer CATL. The exact battery capacity has yet to be disclosed.

Xiaomi has also announced that rigorous road testing of the YU7 is currently underway to ensure reliability and quality ahead of its anticipated launch in June or July next year. While the price for the YU7 SUV has not yet been revealed, it is expected to exceed that of the SU7 sedan, which is typical in China’s EV market.

The SU7 sedan, Xiaomi’s first EV model, debuted on March 28 this year and is available in three trims—Standard, Pro, and Max—with prices starting at 215,900 yuan (approximately €28,000). The highest-end version is priced at 299,900 yuan. Positioned as a premium offering, the YU7 is likely to attract a broader range of customers.

Xiaomi, which has already made a name for itself in innovative technologies spanning smartphones, smart home devices, and consumer electronics, is now pushing further into the fast-growing EV sector. With the YU7, a model that blends advanced technology and sleek design, Xiaomi has the potential to challenge established players in the market.
