Inter Miami has confirmed the signing of Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets, bringing him back together with former teammate Lionel Messi.
After spending 18 years with Barcelona, Busquets, 34, announced his departure from the La Liga champions in May.
The midfielder will now join forces with Argentina forward Messi, 35, who recently confirmed his move to Inter Miami from Paris St-Germain.
Busquets and Messi played together at Barcelona for 13 seasons, from 2008 to 2021. Their time together was marked by tremendous success, winning three Champions League titles, eight La Liga titles, and six Copa del Rey trophies.
While there were reported offers from Saudi Arabia, Busquets, like Messi, has chosen to join the Miami-based club owned by David Beckham.
Having played a total of 722 matches for Barcelona, Busquets holds the distinction of being the third-highest appearance-maker in the club’s history. During his 15-year tenure with the senior team, he scored 18 goals and provided 40 assists.
Busquets began his journey with Barcelona as a youth player in 2005, progressing through the ranks to make his first-team debut under manager Pep Guardiola in a league game against Racing Santander in 2008.
Barcelona acknowledged Busquets’ departure from the Nou Camp and hailed him as “one of the best players ever to represent the club.”
The former Spain captain, who retired from international football in December, was part of the national team’s triumphs in the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship.
