The confectionery company Mondelez has resumed its pre-war production of goods from before February 2022.
The production was restored after the factory was heavily damaged by Russian attacks. Mondelez has restarted the production of its Oreo cookies at its plant in the town of Trostyanets in eastern Ukraine, which was heavily damaged by Russian attacks two years ago. Last year, the company partially resumed production, starting with chocolate. Now, it has returned to its original pre-war production. This was reported by Reuters.
The company stated that Oreo cookies and other products from the Trostyanets plant are not exported to Russia. For the Russian market, it manufactures in three local plants, despite boycotts and calls to cease production in Russia from investors, activists, and employees.
Sales in Russia continue
Similar to Mondelez, other food companies, including the Swiss giant Nestlé, continue to sell their products in Russia. Food products were not included in the international sanctions against Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine.
While the Trostyanets plant was being repaired, Mondelez imported Oreo cookies into Ukraine. The current production in Trostyanets now serves the domestic market and is also exported to Eurasian markets, including Georgia and Kazakhstan. These countries originally helped supply Mondelez’s Russian plants.
