A sudden flash flood in Inner Mongolia, China, has tragically taken the lives of at least eight people, with rescue teams still on the lookout for four others who are missing, as reported by state media on Sunday, according to AFP.
The disaster hit late Saturday around 10 p.m. local time, when rising waters swept away a group of 13 campers. Thankfully, one person was rescued, but search and recovery efforts continued into Sunday morning, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
Natural disasters like this are unfortunately common in China during the summer months, when some areas face heavy rains while others suffer from extreme heat. Just last August, flash floods and landslides in the northwest region resulted in at least 13 fatalities, according to state media. And only weeks before that, torrential rains in Beijing led to 44 deaths, with the rural outskirts being the hardest hit, while a landslide in neighboring Hebei province claimed another eight lives.
