Jose Socrates faces 22 allegations including money laundering and corruption, with his test starting from July 3.
According to an announcement by the Lisbon Court reported by the AFP, the test of former Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates is scheduled to begin on July 3, reported by AFP.
Sócrates face 22 allegations
The 67-year-old East-leader is facing 22 allegations, including money laundering, document forgery and corruption. The allegation arises from his tenure as Prime Minister between 2005 and 2011.
The Lisbon Court set the date for the test after a meeting of judges and lawyers, which confirmed that about 20 other persons would be tried with Socrates as well. There are several commercial figures accused of financial offenses among co-operatives.
However, Socrates strongly opposed the decision, arguing that the case is under investigation. “The test may not be done because the matter is still in the investigative phase,” he told the Portuguese media.
