Guatemala’s Fuego Volcano Erupts, Spewing Ash and Lava Seven Kilometers High

The eruption of the Fuego volcanic of Guatemala has been lacked by large-scale withdrawal and schools as authorities have warned of life-threatening situations.

On Monday, Fuego erupted, the ash and lava were reported to be seven kilometers in the air, DPA, AFP and Guardian.

The country’s National Institute of Seismology, Volcano, Meteorological and Hydrology said that the rapid growing currents of lava, ash, and rock debris were putting down the slopes of the 3,763 meters high volcano at high speeds.

The authorities ordered the withdrawal of about 30,000 people from the surrounding areas due to immediate threat to the residents. Many municipalities in Guatemala have also closed schools as a blanket of volcanic ash.

Fuego – Spanish for “Fire” is the most active volcano in Central America, located about 40 km from Guatemala City. The disastrous explosion in 2018 claimed at least 200 lives.
