The highly anticipated sci-fi film The Electric State is coming soon to Netflix and is set to become the most expensive film in the streaming platform’s history.
The budget for this upcoming project has surpassed an astonishing $300 million. The film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, known for their work on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the story takes place in a retro-futuristic version of the 1990s. The central character is Michelle, a teenage orphan trying to survive in a world where robots, once peaceful, have been exiled after a failed uprising. These robots resemble cartoon characters and mascots.
Michelle embarks on a journey across the southwestern United States in search of her missing brother.
“As they enter the Exclusion Zone, a desolate part of the desert now inhabited by solitary robots, Keats and Michelle encounter a strange and diverse group of new animatronic allies—and begin to uncover that the forces behind Christopher’s disappearance are far more sinister than they imagined,” Netflix teases. The film is expected to be released early next year.
