Thor: Love and Thunder,” released in 2022, depicts Thor’s most challenging journey as he searches for inner peace. However, his rest is disrupted by the galactic killer Gorr the God Butcher, who aims to annihilate the gods. Thor enlists the help of Valkyrie, Korg, and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, embarking on a space adventure to uncover Gorr’s secrets and stop him before it’s too late.
Despite its ambitions, the fourth installment of Thor was criticized for the silly humor of screenwriter Taika Waititi and the poor visual effects. Chris Hemsworth, who portrays Thor, is aware of these critiques. “I think we just had too much fun. It started to get a bit silly,” he commented last year about the film, a sentiment he still supports.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth expressed his regrets, saying, “I got caught up in improvisation and madness. I became a parody of myself.” However, this wasn’t the case in the previous installments. His colleague, Robert Downey Jr., who plays Iron Man, described his performances in earlier parts as an “impressive hat trick.”
Nevertheless, it remains a fact that Hemsworth’s performance was the least of the issues in the latest Thor movie. Most of the criticism rightfully falls on director Waititi, who perhaps enjoyed himself too much in his recent projects and didn’t give them the serious attention they deserved. Let’s hope that the announced fifth film, which currently lacks a title, director, or release date, will restore Thor’s reputation.
