Great Britain continued their winning streak at the Ice Hockey World Championship Division I with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Poland in Nottingham.

Ben Lake scored the decisive goal in overtime, rescuing the win for GB after surrendering a 3-1 lead and allowing Poland to equalize with just 47 seconds remaining in regulation time. Captain Jonathan Phillips, Cade Neilson, Liam Kirk, and Mike Hammond also found the back of the net for the home team.

GB’s next game will be against Lithuania on Tuesday. In other matches, Italy secured a comfortable 6-1 win over Korea, maintaining their perfect record, while Romania staged a comeback to defeat Lithuania 3-2 after initially trailing by two goals.

The tournament features six teams vying for promotion to the elite Championship group, with the top two teams earning a spot in the 2024 top-level World Championship in the Czech Republic. Great Britain and Italy were relegated from the Championship group last year.
