Swedish authorities are investigating French footballer Kylian Mbappé over allegations of rape and sexual assault, according to local media reports.
The captain of the French national team spent last week in Stockholm with friends, staying at the Bank Hotel in the city center. On the night in question, the group visited the well-known restaurant Chez Jolie before heading to a nightclub.
The first report, published by Aftonbladet, mentioned only that Mbappé was staying at the same hotel where a sexual assault incident had been recorded. Later, Expressen reported that the footballer is “reasonably suspected” of involvement, and that police were collecting evidence from the hotel. While prosecutors confirmed an ongoing investigation, they did not specifically name Mbappé in their statement.
According to French broadcaster BFM TV, the level of suspicion is the “least serious” under Sweden’s three-tier system. This designation is often applied during initial investigations to determine potential connections to the case. It is possible that Mbappé has no involvement in the alleged assault.
