McDonald’s currently operates over 1,400 locations in Germany, employing more than 65,000 people. The American fast-food giant is now preparing for significant expansion in the country over the coming years, according to a report by DPA.
Christoph Gehrig, McDonald’s Chief Financial Officer for Germany, spoke to Funke Media Group, outlining the company’s growth strategy. “We have strong confidence in Germany as a key market for our business and plan to continue our significant expansion here in the near future,” Gehrig stated.
This year, McDonald’s aims to open 25 new restaurants, each employing around 50 staff members. Over the next three years, this number is expected to increase to 75 new locations annually. By the end of 2027, these expansions will create more than 12,000 new jobs.
In the medium term, the company plans to open 500 new locations across Germany, particularly in high-traffic areas such as highways and train stations. “We are focusing on expanding drive-in locations, as Germany remains a car-centric country, and I don’t foresee that changing anytime soon,” Gehrig added.
To support the hiring demands of this large-scale expansion, Gehrig called for the reduction of bureaucratic hurdles in employing refugees.
With its current 1,400 outlets in Germany and a workforce of 65,000, McDonald’s is set to significantly increase its presence in the country.
