PlayStation 5 accessories get a sleek black makeover

While Nintendo and Xbox regularly release a variety of accessories for their consoles, PlayStation has been more reserved this generation.

So far, the DualSense controller has received the most color variations. However, new hardware will soon join the lineup with the introduction of the Midnight Black Collection. This series will include the Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore headsets, the DualSense Edge controller, and the PlayStation Portal handheld, all in a striking black finish. These items are set to launch on February 20th.

The redesign extends beyond the accessories themselves. The accompanying packaging for the headsets and controllers will also match the sleek black theme. Pricing for the collection remains consistent with current models. The Pulse Elite headset is expected to retail for $150, while the Pulse Explore will be priced at approximately $170.

The DualSense Edge controller, with its premium features like customizable profiles, swappable thumbsticks, and rear buttons, will continue to retail for over $215 in most stores. While its price makes it a luxury rather than a necessity, these features are aimed at enthusiasts seeking extra flexibility.

The PlayStation Portal, which has surpassed Sony’s own sales expectations, is also getting the Midnight Black treatment. Priced around $215, this handheld device initially functioned solely as a remote screen for the PlayStation 5. However, it now supports cloud gaming, significantly boosting its versatility. To access this feature, players will need the highest tier of the PlayStation Plus subscription. Sony has hinted at additional features and updates for the Portal in the future, further enhancing its appeal.
