The action-packed hit Mad Max: Fury Road immediately became a cult favorite in its genre in 2015, thanks to its unique audio-visual experience filled with incredible stunt work.
Soon, its long-awaited spin-off, Furiosa, will hit theaters. The first journalists have already seen it, and according to their initial reactions, it’s poised to outdo its predecessor with its flawless action.
One of the most anticipated films of the year premiered in Australia this week, and initial reports suggest that the new installment in the beloved post-apocalyptic series once again delivers an epic experience. Many critics who have seen the film seem to agree on this. Naturally, much of the discussion revolves around the film’s action sequences, which are on par with its predecessor.
The Wrap’s social media platform X describes Furiosa as an immersive experience that occasionally transcends the IMAX screen, and Slashfilm even goes as far as to label the legendary creator of the series, George Miller, as a master of modern action cinema. According to several journalists, Miller once again emphasizes the honest work of stunt performers and raw authenticity, with the highlight being a 15-minute sequence that was filmed over an incredible 78 days, requiring the work of 200 stunt performers every single day.
While practical effects are highly praised, according to The Jam Report, the occasional CGI effects, although minimal, sometimes give off an artificial and cheap impression.
However, where Furiosa significantly surpasses its predecessor, according to them, is its screenplay. While Fury Road sometimes felt almost like a silent film with scarce dialogue, Furiosa is richer in this regard, as the story itself will unfold against a backdrop of approximately 16 to 18 years.
Journalists also commented on the performances of the two main protagonists, Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, showering them with praise, particularly noting Taylor-Joy’s standout performance, especially considering her role in the series Queen’s Gambit.
