The origin of the princess’s name will be different in the new Snow White, actress explains.
Although the movie hasn’t been released yet, it’s already facing criticism. Some viewers are unhappy with the casting choice, while others take issue with the use of CGI dwarfs or the fact that the storyline deviates from the original, reflecting more modern themes.
In this new version, the prince doesn’t rescue the main character, altering the core plot. The filmmakers aim to highlight themes of empowerment, emphasizing women’s independence and bravery. Whether audiences will appreciate these changes remains to be seen. Another notable difference is the origin of Snow White’s name.
According to Variety, in Disney’s 1937 film, Snow White is described as a princess “with skin as white as snow.” However, the new movie takes a different approach. Actress Rachel Zegler, who plays the lead, has Colombian heritage, and her skin tone is slightly darker.
In an interview with Variety, Zegler shared that this version of Snow White draws from a different historical interpretation, where the princess survives a snowstorm as a child. The king and queen then name her Snow White to honor her resilience.
“One of the key messages of our film, for every young woman or person, is to recognize how strong they truly are,” Zegler said. The film is set to premiere on March 20 of next year, and we’ll have to wait a few more months to see how it turns out.
