At the Turkish-Greek border, authorities intercepted a car smuggling dozens of exotic animals.

The vehicle, a mid-sized sedan with Greek license plates, was found carrying three kangaroos, three alpacas, a Patagonian mara, 12 parrots, and 23 flying squirrels.

In a routine inspection in the northwestern Turkish city of Edirne, customs officials made the discovery after searching the trunk of the car. Many of the animals, including young offspring, were found tightly packed in cages, with some larger animals bound closely together.

Footage from the scene showed cramped conditions for the animals, but fortunately, all of them survived. The Turkish news agency Anadolu reported that the driver of the vehicle was arrested on the spot. The seized animals will be handed over to Turkey’s Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks for proper care.
