The United States is planning a significant increase in defense spending for the financial year 2026, increasing the military budget to $ 1.01 trillion a 13% increase while funding funding for education, environmental protection and foreign aid.
As per a budget request released by the White House on Monday, the proposed growth reflects former President Donald Trump’s commitment to “peace through peace”. The request aims to rebuild the US Army and restore its global preventive capabilities.
The major priorities mentioned in the document include combating China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific sector and reviving the US defense industrial base.
To make up for an increase in military expenditure, the Trump administration has proposed to cut $ 163 billion from non-defense programs. These deductions will affect areas such as renewable energy, environmental initiative, education and international development. The total non-leading expenses will fall to $ 557 billion, which represents a fall of 22.6% compared to estimates of the financial year 2025, which ends on 30 September.
The proposed deduction will mainly affect the departments of energy, education, housing and urban development, health and human service, and environmental protection agency (EPA).
