
According to AFP, Peru was killed by an earthquake of 6.1 magnitude on Sunday, resulting in a deadly and several landslides.
The National Sismological Center reported that the earthquake occurred shortly before the afternoon local time, with its sub -station, the port city is located about 30 km from Kailao, which is the border of the capital Lima. The US Geological Survey (USGS) later recorded an earthquake at a magnitude of 5.6.
A deadly, many injured
Police confirmed that a 36 -year -old man died in Lima when the wall of a building fell on his car during a tremor. Emergency services reported at least five people injured in the capital.
President Dina Bolurte urged the citizens to remain calm, saying that no tsunami warning was issued to the country’s Pacific coast.
Landslide and property damage
Television network Latina broadcast footage showing several landslides in various parts of Lima. Local media is also crushed by the debris of damaged houses and vehicles. AFP reported that the earthquake was quite strong to disrupt a football match in Lima.
Peru, the house of about 34 million people, sits with the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, a region that is known for frequent seismic and volcanic activity. The country experiences at least 100 earthquakes every year. Final major earthquake, 7.5 magnitude incident in 2021, injured 12 people and destroyed more than 70 buildings. One of the country’s deadliest earthquakes occurred in 1970, with about 67,000 lives in North Peru.
