Firefighters are struggling to control a massive wildfire that has erupted on Euboea, the second-largest Greek island.
The fire, fueled by strong winds, is proving extremely challenging to manage. Hundreds of firefighters and volunteers are working tirelessly to combat the blaze, which is affecting the southern part of the island. Several villages and towns in this area have been evacuated as a precaution. The flames are spreading rapidly through difficult terrain, according to reports from DPA on Tuesday.
Over 200 firefighters, along with numerous volunteers, are engaged in efforts to extinguish the fire. In addition to seven firefighting planes and four helicopters, the Coast Guard is also involved with its firefighting boat.
This fire on Euboea is part of a series of over 50 wildfires that have broken out in Greece over the past 24 hours. Fortunately, most of these fires have been quickly brought under control.
However, the situation on Euboea remains critical. Locals are accustomed to wildfires, but they hope the current blaze will subside before it escalates into a more dangerous situation, DPA reports.
