Hugh Jackman recently made a highly anticipated return to the big screen as Wolverine in the action-comedy Deadpool & Wolverine, marking a major comeback for the beloved X-Men character.
For a while, many believed that Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine had come to an end, including the actor himself. In an interview on The Tonight Show, Jackman admitted that he thought his journey with the Wolverine saga was over. “I announced that Logan would be my last film, and three days after the announcement, I saw Deadpool 1. I remember watching it and thinking, ‘Oops. I can see it now,’” he shared.
During the interview, the host asked Jackman about his diet and training regimen for the role, which required him to be in top physical shape. Jackman revealed that he had to consume an astounding 6,000 calories a day, nearly three times the average intake for an adult male. However, these weren’t the “fun” calories. “Half a pizza is 6,000 calories, but this was chicken, tilapia, and beans,” Jackman explained.
The actor also recalled the moment he realized he wanted to bring Wolverine and Deadpool together on screen. He was so struck by the idea that he pulled his car over in the middle of traffic to call Ryan Reynolds. Eventually, he managed to convince Reynolds, and the idea was also embraced by producer Kevin Feige, Marvel, and Disney.
Reflecting on his return to the role, Jackman expressed his excitement: “I had more fun playing Wolverine this time than ever before,” he confessed to Fallon.
