Romanian basketball player Robert Bobroczkyi, who stands over 7 feet 7 inches tall, plays the character “The Offspring” in the new Alien movie.
His imposing stature, combined with digital effects, gives the character a truly terrifying appearance.
The new character in the film is portrayed by a professional basketball player. Director Fede Alvarez cast Bobroczkyi due to his extraordinary height of 2.31 meters (7 feet 7 inches). Although Bobroczkyi has no previous acting experience, he brought the horror character to life with remarkable precision.
At 24 years old, Bobroczkyi gained attention not only for his basketball talent but also for his remarkable height. In 2016, he moved to Geneva, Ohio, in the United States, where he pursued his studies. He played on the basketball team during the 2021 and 2022 seasons and is comparable in height to famous NBA players.
While Bobroczkyi lacks acting experience, his unique physique made him an ideal fit for the film. “The way he moves is incredible,” said Ludovic Chailloleau, head of animation for Alien: Romulus, in an interview with Variety. Animators and designers used practical effects to enhance his natural appearance, resulting in a chilling final product that adds to the film’s unsettling atmosphere, while still allowing Bobroczkyi’s natural presence to stand out.
