The most expensive project in television history will soon continue. The second season of Amazon’s grand fantasy series, The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, has just been revealed in its first trailer, and there is much to look forward to. Sauron’s power is growing, and Middle-earth, led by the mighty Númenor, is nearing a colossal war. In the second season, creators promise a significantly darker and more authentic experience, as well as a greater emphasis on characters. Director Charlotte Brändström, who directed select episodes of the first season, has also hinted at multiple major twists awaiting viewers.
The first season of the Lord of the Rings series primarily focused on the reveal of Sauron, which occurred in the final episode. Now, the Dark Lord will begin to gain strength and is ready to openly confront his enemies. In addition to returning characters such as Sauron, Galadriel, and others, one of the most prominent figures will be Círdan, one of the oldest and wisest elves, who later became a key figure in the fight against Sauron.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the creators are planning an event in the new episodes that could be one of the biggest in television history – they intend to introduce a massive battle in Middle-earth that will span two entire episodes.
While the trailer includes action sequences, it remains relatively sparse on details. However, we assume it may depict the Siege of Eregion. The downfall of Eregion is a pivotal moment in Middle-earth history and seems to be the most likely setting for such a large-scale battle. The destruction of Eregion will undoubtedly occur in the series; the question remains what pace of storytelling the creators will choose for the second season and whether the downfall of the elvish stronghold will be the action-packed climax of the series. It remains a fact that Amazon has ample room for improvement after the first season, and they must redeem the reputation of their billion-dollar series.
