Petra Hřebíčková’s Portrayal of a Trapped Mother Entertains Audiences
The Czech comedy “Runaway Mum” (Matka v trapu) has seen great success on the streaming platform Netflix over the past week. In the Czech Republic, it has reached the number one spot in movie viewership, maintaining its position for several days despite the premiere of the major American sci-fi film “Atlas” starring Jennifer Lopez. In Slovakia, the Czech comedy is the second most-watched film.
The main character of the Czech comedy is Sylvia (played by Petra Hřebíčková), who works in an advertising agency. She has two children and a husband—seemingly an ideal life. However, everything falls apart when her boss Karel (Bob Klepl) overwhelms her with impossible tasks.
On top of that, she has to deal with her son’s problems at school, and her husband Tomáš (Jaroslav Plesl) offers no help because he is busy with his painting. Her mother Regina (Jana Švandová), who doesn’t particularly like Tomáš, also creates obstacles for her.
Everything falls on Sylvia’s shoulders. The people around her take all her efforts and hard work for granted because she always manages everything. The situation changes when a taxi driver named Anna (Lenka Vlasáková) offers Sylvia a solution after she confides in her. Anna suggests that Sylvia rent a free room in her apartment for a few days to sort everything out. How will it all turn out? You’ll find out if you watch the film.
