
The hit British mini-series adolescence, currently top of the Netflix chart, is being integrated into school courses in both the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
Netflix has provided shows in secondary schools as an educational tool to detect the risks of social media and peer pressure.In the Netherlands, adolescents will be examined in classes as part of a comprehensive educational program focused on digital awareness. The streaming platform has partnered with the Dutch Media Institute Bield N. Gelud, which is to provide free access in the four-part chain with specially designed teaching materials. These resource colleagues deal with issues such as pressure, online personality effects and dangers of toxic digital content.
The Dutch MP Cathaman, who supported the initiative, emphasized that schools are an important environment to open discussion around these sensitive subjects. She was inspired by the UK Prime Minister Kir Stmper, who advocated a series used in British schools, stating that adolescence “throws light on many people’s issues, which many people still struggle to fully understand.”
“Showing a series in classes, we make a safe place for open interactions about serious themes,” Cathamanman said. “It helps the youth to make flexibility and removes them from toxic masculinity and harmful online communities.”
According to the creators, adolescents are an ideal way to enclose students and make a meaningful communication about how the daily life of the Internet gives shape. He argues that most of the online world is invisible to teachers and parents, which makes education and awareness more important.
Premier on March 13, 2025, adolescence quickly became a global event, attracting more than 114 million spectators within its first month. The series is a dark, entertaining drama that examines topics of adolescence, crime and youth violence.
The story follows 13 -year -old Jamie Miller (starred by Owen Cooper), who is accused of killing a classmate. The series not only dives into stressful investigation, but also investigates psychological tension placed on Jamie and her family. The story is inspired by the real-world social issues and modern-day challenges faced by teenagers.
