Prime Video’s upcoming Tomb Raider series, directed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, appears to have found its leading lady.
According to Deadline, Sophie Turner, best known for her role in Game of Thrones, is the frontrunner to take on the iconic role of Lara Croft.
If cast, Turner will join the ranks of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who have previously portrayed the adventurous archaeologist on screen. Another contender for the role reportedly includes Lucy Boynton, famous for her performance in Bohemian Rhapsody. However, Turner is said to remain the top choice.
Fans of the franchise have mixed feelings about Turner’s potential casting, viewing her as a less conventional pick. This might be precisely why Waller-Bridge is leaning toward her. By breaking away from traditional expectations, the director could aim to reinvent the character with a bold, fresh perspective.
Interestingly, Vikander herself faced similar skepticism before her performance in the 2018 reboot, as she had no prior experience in action roles. Her portrayal eventually won over many fans, suggesting Turner could also rise to the challenge and surprise the audience in a similar fashion.
The Tomb Raider series is slated to premiere on Prime Video in 2026.
