The iconic archaeologist from the Tomb Raider video game franchise is making a comeback in a new animated series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
Angelina Jolie famously portrayed Lara Croft in two live-action films. However, Warner Bros. attempted a reboot in 2018 with Alicia Vikander in the lead role, which failed to impress critics, fans, or the box office. The movie’s underwhelming performance put an end to hopes for a sequel.
Now, however, Lara Croft is returning in a new form. Netflix has taken over the story, and one thing is clear—it will be very different from anything we’ve seen before, as Lara will now appear in an animated series.
The Tomb Raider video game series holds legendary status in the gaming world, and Lara Croft has become an enduring cultural icon. As a British archaeologist, she travels the globe in search of mythical artifacts.
The live-action films from over two decades ago, starring Angelina Jolie, became somewhat famous but were not major hits. The 2018 reboot, although inspired by the video game, likely resonated more with fans of the Tomb Raider series but still fell short of expectations.
Netflix is now looking to change that narrative with the upcoming animated series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. The show will draw closer inspiration from the recent Tomb Raider video game trilogy.
