One of the UK’s most beloved characters, Paddington Bear, has been issued a British passport.
Rob Silva, who worked on the latest Paddington film, revealed that the UK Home Office issued an official travel document for the popular character. Originally, the filmmakers had requested a replica, but the Home Office surprised everyone by issuing Paddington an actual British passport.
In an interview with Radio Times, Silva said, “You wouldn’t expect the Home Office to have a sense of humor, but they officially listed him as a bear in their records.” To ensure accuracy, Paddington’s passport includes a note clarifying that he is an animal, not a human. The iconic bear received his passport 66 years after his first appearance in London. However, the Home Office told the BBC that it is a sample document and cannot be used for actual travel.
Fans of Paddington can look forward to the third installment of his film series this winter. The new story takes the bear back to Peru, his homeland, where he embarks on an unexpected adventure filled with mysteries and excitement.
