Starting next season, tourists visiting Venice for a single day will face a doubled entry fee of €10, up from the previous trial rate of €5.
This adjustment, effective mid-April, was announced by city officials via DPA on Thursday, aiming to manage the high volume of tourists. Venice pioneered this entry fee concept earlier this year, becoming the first city worldwide to introduce a charge exclusively for day visitors. During the trial, the €5 entry fee generated approximately €2.4 million for the city from 485,000 tourists, collected from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The new €10 fee will apply through the end of July. However, visitors who book their entry more than three days in advance will continue to pay the original €5 rate. For those who attempt to bypass the fee, fines of up to €300 may be imposed, though such penalties were not enforced during the trial period. The revenue generated will go toward essential maintenance, including canal repairs, road upkeep, and building restoration across Venice.
