In a recent interview, actor Walton Goggins opened up how his real -life experiences mirror closely with his white lotus character, Rick Hatchett.
Gogins revealed that like Rick, he traveled to Thailand about 20 years ago, while struggling with intensive personal loss. After his wife, lean, died of suicide in 2004, Gogins started a journey through Thailand and demanded medical and peace – an experience that gave him deep shape.
“Twenty years ago, I went to Thailand in search of peace, looking for a reply – not unlike Rick,” they shared. While the inspirations between him and his character are different – the journey to Thailand to avenge his father’s death – Gogins said that he deepened Rick’s emotional status. He said, “The circumstances were dramatically different, but I am intimately related to where Rick is coming from,” he said, when he first read the script, it looked like a sign from the universe.
“Rick Hatcket is not just a fictional character for me,” Gogins explained. “He is a real person who is overwhelmed by some life thrown at him, which he could not control.”
During filming, Goggins encountered places that brought back vivid memories from his earlier trip. “We arrived at a location, and there it was the same room I stayed in when I first came here 20 years ago,” he recalled.
