The unstoppable rise of Deadpool & Wolverine continues, with the latest Marvel film smashing records—not just in theaters, but now in the online streaming space.
The gritty superhero film has overtaken an iconic action franchise, becoming the most successful R-rated film available on streaming platforms.
Released for online viewing on October 1, Deadpool & Wolverine immediately attracted massive interest. According to Cosmic Book, nearly 600,000 U.S. households purchased the film within the first six days of its release, setting a new record for R-rated films. Previously, this title belonged to John Wick: Chapter 4.
Disney is reaping the rewards of this surge in demand, earning tens of millions from online sales. For now, Deadpool & Wolverine is only available on PVOD platforms like Apple TV and YouTube Movies, where viewers can rent or purchase the film.
This latest milestone adds to the film’s box-office success. With earnings of $1.33 billion, Deadpool & Wolverine is now the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time and the second-highest-grossing movie of the year, trailing only Disney’s Inside Out 2.
Inside Out 2 recently broke streaming records on Disney+, and similar achievements are expected once Deadpool & Wolverine is added to the platform. However, the release date for Disney+ is still unknown, as Disney aims to maximize profits from PVOD before making the film available for traditional streaming.
