The casting call for the main roles in the upcoming Harry Potter series has officially begun.
HBO has released a casting announcement searching for children aged nine to eleven by April 2025. A key requirement is that applicants must hold British or Irish citizenship. The casting call emphasizes inclusivity, stating that the search will include children of all races, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
“We are committed to inclusive and diverse casting. For every role, please submit qualified performers regardless of ethnicity, gender, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other protected characteristic, unless otherwise specified,” the announcement read.
Young actors are asked to submit two short videos: one introducing themselves and another showcasing a poem, story, or their own creative work—though nothing from Harry Potter itself.
HBO has recruited Francesca Gardiner as showrunner and Mark Mylod as director for the upcoming series, both of whom are known for their work on the hit series Succession.
Filming is scheduled to take place between 2025 and 2026 in the United Kingdom. According to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, the goal is to bring the iconic trio to screens by 2026. The series is set to have seven seasons, with each season adapting one of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books.
