Are you dreaming of escaping the busy city life and living on a serene island surrounded by breathtaking nature? If so, you might be interested in a picturesque island that is currently for sale off the Scottish shores.
For nearly three million euros, the future owner can enjoy not only solitude and peace but also sandy beaches, flocks of birds, seven homes, a pub, and an idyllic lighthouse at the southern tip.
If the following lines have caught your attention, you should get to know Sanda Island, a scenic oasis visible from the Kintyre Peninsula, made famous by Paul McCartney’s legendary song “Mull of Kintyre.”
Sanda Island, covering 127 hectares, looks like something out of a postcard. It offers pastoral greenery, rocky beaches, and gentle slopes accessible even to less experienced hikers. The island’s highest point reaches only 23 meters, ensuring easy accessibility and breathtaking panoramic views.
Sanda Island is ideal for those seeking peace and quiet. It is far from the hustle and bustle of civilization and offers the perfect setting for relaxation and rest. Adventure lovers will also find plenty to do, as the island offers hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, and bird watching.
In 2010, a Swiss businessman bought the island and enjoyed this paradise all to himself. However, the previous owner had also allowed tourists to visit the place to earn some income, as reported by the Blick newspaper.
Once, there was a bustling pub on the island called Byron Darnton, named after a ship that wrecked there in 1946. Although it has been silent for the last 14 years, its liquor license is still valid.
“This is in case the new owners want to revive its glory,” Tom Stewart-Moore, a broker from the real estate agency selling the island, explained to CNN.
He further explains that this also offers the future owner the opportunity to maintain the property either as a private retreat or to offer unique stays and earn money. Access to the island is possible by a 40-minute boat ride from two sides or by helicopter.
The extensive grassy areas on Sanda Island require no maintenance from the owner. “A flock of 55 sheep will gladly take care of it while acting as ecological lawnmowers,” adds broker Tom Stewart-Moore with a smile.
Interest in the island is increasing, and the first purchase offers have already been submitted. “There are two groups among potential buyers,” explains Stewart-Moore.
“One consists of wealthy investors who want to buy the island as a private retreat and keep it to themselves. The other group consists of visionaries who plan to commercialize the pub and buildings on the island or potentially start self-sustaining agricultural production.”
