If you’re a fan of the beloved animated classic Shrek, it looks like you’ll have to hold on a bit longer for the next chapter. Shrek 5 is now set to hit theaters in June 2027.
Initially slated for a July 2026 release, then moved to December 23, 2026, the date has been pushed back yet again, now landing on June 30, 2027. According to Variety, the reason behind this latest delay hasn’t been officially clarified.
Insiders in the industry suggest that this change is likely to steer clear of competing with big December 2026 releases like Avengers: Doomsday, Dune: Part III, and Ice Age 6.
Returning to reprise their roles are Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, with Zendaya joining the fun. Directors Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn, who have been part of the series for a long time, will be at the helm of this film.
This sequel will arrive a full 15 years after the last Shrek movie. The original made its debut in 2001, followed by sequels in 2004, 2007, and 2010.
