According to Rolling Stone, the project by American director Greta Gerwig is expected to be her magnum opus. Actress Margot Robbie will welcome us as the new Barbie, while actor Ryan Gosling will portray the character of Ken.

In an interview with Extra TV, Margot admitted that Ryan was a clear choice for the film, and the director immediately incorporated his name directly into the script. In Margot’s case, the circumstances were a bit different as originally, the role of Barbie was supposed to be played by Amy Schumer, who eventually stepped down from the film. According to People magazine, Amy had quite different ideas about the movie.

Budget and Earnings

It is estimated that the production of the pink movie amounted to 145 million dollars. During its opening weekend, the Barbie movie is expected to earn 93 million dollars, nearly half of what its film competitor, Oppenheimer, made. American journalist Matthew Belloni shared this information with the world through Twitter. Although it is difficult to predict the exact earnings of the Barbie movie at this point, its chances of success are increasing.

Talking about these sums

According to Celebrity Net Worth, the total estimated wealth of Margot Robbie is 40 million dollars, while her fellow actor Ryan Gosling’s wealth is 30 million higher. As reported by Variety magazine, both actors received the same amount of money for their roles, specifically 12.5 million dollars.

Steve Carell received the same amount for his voice-over in the movie Minions: The Rise of Gru. While their salaries are far from those received by actors like Tom Cruise or Will Smith for their recent blockbusters, it is still a more than decent amount of money. Will Smith received 35 million dollars for the movie Emancipation, according to ScreenRant.

First Reactions

A few lucky individuals have already had the opportunity to see the movie news. Film producer Perri Nemiroff particularly praised the costumes and film design. However, she mentioned a few reservations about the plot: “There are characters that deserve more screen time.” Joseph Deckelmeier, a writer for ScreenRant, described the film as “entertaining, spectacular, and very clever.”

The History of the Famous Doll

The creation of the popular Barbie is credited to Ruth Handler, an American entrepreneur and inventor. With her idea, Ruth wanted to show girls that they could be anything they wanted. Today, her toy company Mattel has billions of dollars to its name. In the past, Ruth noticed that her daughter preferred playing with adult paper dolls rather than childlike plastic ones. That opened her eyes. She realized that girls wanted to be more grown-up. She wanted them to dream about their own future instead of their “child’s” future. Ruth’s husband, Elliot, initially didn’t believe that anyone would want to buy such a doll. “No mother would buy her daughter a doll with breasts,” he said.

She didn’t give up on her vision despite criticism

However, Ruth didn’t give up on her vision, and Barbie became a worldwide sensation. After a survey by psychologist Ernest Dichter, Ruth discovered that even though girls loved Barbie, their mothers despised the doll. Therefore, she decided to take his advice to television, where in the very first Barbie commercial, she highlighted the symbolism of the grown-up doll. The commercial featured Barbie wearing various outfits, representing different female roles. After airing the advertisement, a frenzy began, and in the first year, Mattel sold 350,000 Barbie dolls.
