In September, we can look forward to the premiere of the sequel to the cult horror-comedy Beetlejuice.
The cult horror-comedy was created in the 1980s and continues to entertain audiences today. This era saw the development of the entire genre, and many films that are now considered classics emerged during this time. The master of this genre is none other than Tim Burton. After nearly forty years, he is returning with a second installment.
Beetlejuice, played by Michael Keaton, tells the story of a mischievous ghost hired to drive out an unbearable family that has moved into the house of a recently deceased couple. In the sequel, Michael Keaton will reprise his role alongside Winona Ryder (Stranger Things, Edward Scissorhands), who played Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara (Home Alone) as Delia Deetz. New cast members include Justin Theroux (The Leftovers), Monica Bellucci (The Matrix), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon), and Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), who will play Astrid, Lydia’s daughter. Notably, Ryder and Ortega bear a striking resemblance, making the casting choice excellent.
Following an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Lydia’s life, still haunted by Beetlejuice, is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter Astrid discovers a mysterious model town in the attic and accidentally opens a portal to the Afterlife.
With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time before someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times, bringing the mischievous demon back to wreak his own havoc. This is the premise of the second installment of the famous horror-comedy.
