The iconic video game series The Sims is set to get its own film adaptation, with Amazon also joining the project.
Although the anticipated fifth edition of The Sims game won’t be released, fans have something else to look forward to. A film based on the beloved game is in development.
After months of speculation, game developer Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed, according to the BBC, that they are collaborating with Amazon’s MGM Studios to bring The Sims to the big screen. Actress Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, is also involved, along with director Kate Herron, known for her work on Sex Education and Loki.
The Sims, developed by Maxis, allows players to control the lives of virtual characters called “Sims.” Its simple yet engaging life simulation quickly gained a huge fanbase and became a cultural phenomenon.
While EA has yet to share more details, the company promises additional updates next year as The Sims celebrates its 25th anniversary.
