Flooding continues in the German states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.
On Monday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited the Bavarian town of Reichertshofen to assess the situation, according to TASR and the DPA.
Heavy, continuous rains over the weekend caused floods in these southern states of Germany, forcing thousands to leave their homes.
Authorities have reported four fatalities, though it is unclear if the deaths were caused by the floods, DPA reports. Rescue workers continued evacuating at-risk residents and searching for the missing on Monday.
In Upper Bavaria, authorities ordered the evacuation of residents along the Amper River near Moosburg an der Isar after a dam burst. States of emergency were declared in the cities of Regensburg and Rosenheim, with dozens evacuated from Regensburg on Monday evening.
Rail authorities have advised people not to travel to southern Germany
Several schools in Bavaria will conduct remote learning on Tuesday. Deutsche Bahn has urged travelers to avoid journeys to the southern parts of Germany.
Scholz visited Reichertshofen, located north of the Bavarian capital Munich, and promised support and aid to those affected by the floods. German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser and Bavarian Premier Markus Söder also visited Reichertshofen.
The flood situation has improved in some parts of Baden-Württemberg, where authorities have lifted the state of emergency and allowed residents to return to their homes, reports DPA.
